RVIDAS - Research Vessel Investigator Data Acquisition System
Python
RVIDAS is a bespoke Data Acquisition System (DAS) designed specifically for the RV Investigator, an Australian vessel conducting oceanographic and antarctic research. It extends the capabilities of the open source OpenRVDAS to accommodate the unique requirements of the RV Investigator, including managing real-time data streams from specialized onboard sensors and integrating seamlessly with the vessel's operational workflows. It works similar to Apache Kafka, optimised for real-time marine and atmouspheric data handling.
Onboard the ship, RVIDAS listened to a large array of sensors, including:
- Oceanographic Sensors:
- CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth) profilers for ocean sampling
- Seawater sampling systems for continuous analysis
- Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) for measuring water current velocities
- Atmospheric Sensors:
- Meteorological instruments for continuous atmospheric data collection
- Greenhouse gas analyzers
- Radon detectors
- Ozone sensors
- Aerosol measurement instruments
- Weather research radar for meteorological observations
- Geophysical Sensors:
- Multibeam echosounders for seafloor mapping
- Sub-bottom profilers for sediment analysis
- Biological Sensors:
- Plankton nets and imaging systems for studying marine life
- Ship mechanical equipment;
Kongsberg engine performance indicators
